Mystic, CA Fire, Aug 1924

The Deep canyon forest fire near Mystic was under control last night for the first time since it jumped the fire break Wednesday, according to forest service officials at Truckee.

Transcontinental telephone and telegraph lines are now out of danger and Willis R. Pressell, wire chief of the Bell Telephone company, announced last night that the company had withdrawn its entire force of men.

Forest rangers sais that 30 more men would be released today, as the fire is now confined to the head of Deep canyon, where it is believed it will burn itself out.

Reports that the fire had spread to the western slopes of Mount Rose, approximately eight miles southeast of the blaze, were declared false by rangers at the Truckee station who have had men at the fire night and day since it started.
