Baker, CA Two Auto Crash, Nov 1996

Baker, Calif. - Two cars racing along Interstate 15 spun out of control Friday, killing six people.
On Friday, a red and black Acura were in a speeding contest when the accident occurred, said California Highway Patrol Officer Tim Maley. Part of the highway to Las Vegas was shut down for seven hours.
The black car swerved into the red car in an attempt to avoid hitting a truck that had moved into the car's path, Maley said. The red car spun out of control, crashing through the median and into a northbound vehicle.
A man, a woman and a dog in the northbound Lincoln died.
Three people in the red Acura died at the scene. A fourth died 100 miles away at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, a nurse said.
On Thursday, a Porsche driver was killed and an elderly couple in a minivan also were killed on Pacific Coast Highway. Witnesses said the Porsche was racing a motorcycle.
