'CAINE MUTINY' MOVIE STAR DIES IN PLANE CRASH.
Burbank, Calif. - (AP) - Actor ROBERT CHARLES FRANCIS, 25, another man and a woman were killed Sunday in the fiery crash of a private plane on an unused parking lot.
Lockheed Air Terminal operators said the plane belonged to actor Joe Kirkwood, the "Joe Palooka" of the movies. Kirkwood was not aboard.
Police tentatively identified the other victims as GEORGE MEYERS, Kirkwood's pilot, and AUDREY ANN DOSCH, 24, wife of 1st Lt. Edward Dosch of Lowry Field, Denver.
Witnesses said the aircraft had landed briefly at Lockheed and had taken off again when the engine began to sputter. It was believed the pilot had turned back and tried to make the Lockheed runway.
The plane burst into flames when it hit the parking lot.
FRANCIS, a newcomer to films, played the role of Willie Keith in
"The Caine Mutiny."
