Warehouse Burns In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)--A spectacular four-alarm fire in a waterfront warehouse lighted up San Francisco Bay early today and threatened a nearby utilities company gas plant but was brought under control within 1½ hours.

The fire broke out about 12:30 a.m. in an old sugar warehouse being dismantled by the Pacific Gas & Electric Co., to make room for new construction.

Scrap lumber and huge timbers provided material for a mammoth bonfire. Thirty-two pieces of fire-fighting equipment, including fire boats, brought the blaze under control and protected the gas plant.
