Pocahontas, AR Two Auto Head On Crash, June 1952

SEVEN KILLED WHEN CARS CRASH HEAD-ON.

Pocahontas, Ark., June 28. - (AP) - An early morning, head-on crash of two automobiles near here snuffed out the lives of seven St. Louisians, including a bridegroom of only 10 minutes.
Three other persons, also from St. Louis, were seriously injured in the mishap on Highway 67, five miles north of Pocahontas.
The dead were listed as:
JOE COOPER, 38.
MRS. J. D. DAVIS.
The DAVIS' 10-month-old daughter.
JAMES F. BYNUM, 27, formerly of Jonesboro, Ark.
BONNIE MAE NEWMAN, 18, formerly of Jonesboro.
MRS. NOVELLA BREWINGTON, 20, also formerly of Jonesboro.
VICKIE ANN BREWINGTON, 8-month-old daughter of Mrs. Brewington.
Those injured were J. D. DAVIS, MRS. LAVERNE KEYS COOPER and GAY ED BREWINGTON, 4-year-old son of Mrs. Brewington.
State Trooper Kenneth Bean said the car driven by DAVIS apparently went off the road and in attempting to get back on the highway, collided with the oncoming automobile.
Coroner Gardner McNabb said the impact of the collision had so badly mangled the bodies that identification was difficult.
The COOPERS, who were riding with the DAVIS family, reportedly had been married at the Randolph County courthouse here about 10 minutes before the accident.
The injured were taken to a Pocahontas hospital. Pocahontas is in northeast Arkansas, near the Missouri line.
