Farm Blaze Cuses Loss Sunday Night

Fire did damage estimated at $5,000 to farm buildings on the farm of Miss Kate Schnathorst, three miles northeast of Ada, Manitowoc county, shortly after midnight Sunday.

The barn, chicken coop and stables were destroyed, together with a crop of hay, straw and oats. Cattle were saved from the fire, but a small flock of chickens perished.

Ada, Millersville and Howards Grove departments fought the blaze.

While the origin is unknown, Miss Schnathorst this morning itimated the possibility of arson. "I had been reading until about 12 o'clock and as I prepared to retire I heard a whistle, sounded as if it might have been a signal," she said. "I went to bed, and a short time later heard a car driving away. Evidently it had been parked on the road. Then neighbors spread the alarm that the barn was on fire, and the hired boy immediately ran for help."

Miss Schnalthorst said she probably would ask Manitowoc county authorities to investigate.

The house, located some distance from the barn, was not damaged.
