Wild Rose, WI Private Plane Crash, July 1970

PLANE CRASH NEAR WILD ROSE KILLS 4.

Wild Rose (AP) -- A single-engine plane crashed on takeoff from a church camp airstrip Sunday and burst into flames -- killing four members of a rural Racine family.
"When I heard the plane I knew it was going to crash," said JAN NICHOLSON, a camp supervisor.
"We don't usually hear the planes. They take off in the other direction."
Minutes later, NICHOLSON and a companion pulled the only survivor from the wreckage.
The dead were identified as:
GERALD FEHLBERG, 32.
PATRICIA FEHLBERG, 32, his wife.
LYNN FEHLBERG, 3, a daughter.
JULIE FEHLBERG, 5, a daughter.
All were of rural Racine.
Taken to a Wild Rose hospital was TAPIO SANDSTROM, 17, of Finland -- who authorities said speaks little English. He apparently was visiting relatives in the FEHLBERG Family.
The family apparently was returning home after spending the weekend at their Little Silver Lake Cottage, Waushara County officials said.
