Rainier, WA Head On Car Crash, Dec 1959

HEAD-ON CAR CRASH KILLS FIVE.

WOMAN DIES NORTH OF SHEDD.

By Associated Press.
Five men were killed outright Friday night when two cars crashed head-on on a highway near the Columbia River town of Rainier.
Meanwhile the Friday crash - Oregon's worst of the year - came as freezing fog made the state's highways treacherous and stopped air traffic at Portland.
State police patrolman Gilbert West identified CLARENCE E. GALLIA, 25, of St. Helens as the lone occupant of one car.
In the other, he said, were ROBERT WAYNE LOWE, 18, of Longview, Wash.; ALVIN MONROE HAMM, 18, of Kelso, Wash.; NICK TSBIDES, 52, of Centralia, Wash. and JERRY DON YARBROUGH, 19, of Kelso, Wash.
West said the two cars hit in the westbound lane of traffic, but he didn't know which way each was going. He said he also did not know which of the four men was driving the car in which they perished.
