AVIATOR THOUGHT KILLED IN CRASH.

PLANE FALLS AND SINKS IN SHALLOW WATER; NO TRACE OF PILOT FOUND.

Mathews, Va., Oct. 30. -- (AP) -- Lieutenant FRANK R. CONANT, JR., Navy Schneider cup race flier, is believed to have been killed when his plane crashed and sank in shallow water near here today.
The plane crashed suddenly while flying over Winter Harbor, 30 miles north of Norfolk. Efforts to raise the craft have been futile and no trace of the pilot has been found. The number of the plane was A-6970, while officers at the naval air station in Washington, D.C., said was that of the plane CONANT was flying. He was unaccompanied. CONANT was a member of the navy Schneider Cup team and was practicing for the speed races to be held over Hampton Roads on November 11.
