Explosion, Blaze Hit Logan, Utah

LOGAN, Utah, Nov. 9 -- A costly fire which began with an explosion in the First National Bank building at Logan early Tuesday was brought under control shortly before noon.

The fire destroyed a department store on the ground floor and damaged Masonic lodge rooms and offices on upper levels and threatened the bank. There were no reports of injuries.

Early reports indicated that blaze may have begun with the explosion of a steam-heating boiler.

Complete stock of the department store, according to Manager Martin Rosekelley, was destroyed at a loss of $75,000. Estimates of total damage ranged past the $500,000 mark.
