Boy Scout, 15, Probably Fell Into Colorado

Kanab, Utah, June 17 (AP)-A 15-year-old boy scout apparently fell from a dirt bluff into the Colorado River and drowned, officials said today.

Sheriff Leonard Johnson of Kane County called off the hunt for Jesse M. Drury III of Holiday, Utah, a Salt Lake City suburb. Drury failed to return Monday from an excursion down the Colorado river.

Johnson planned dredging operations in the river below a point where search parties found a dirt trail caved in yesterday. About 30 feet below, the imprint of a body was spotted on a ledge and below that about 80 feet, another imprint was sighted.

Johnson said the youth apparently fell from the trail, hit the two ledges and then tumbled into the river.

The spot was a few hundred yards from where the scouts camped at a place called The Crossing of the Fathers. This is located about 20 air miles north of the Glen Canyon dam site in northern Arizona and about 105 miles east of here.

The youth was last seen sitting on a rock Monday at the camp site.
