Quitman Man Critically Injured In Accident

SAM GLASSCOCK, JR of Quitman, an employee of Delta Drilling Company who was critically injured in an oil field accident near Coke Friday morning was reported to be improving at Medical Center Hospital in Tyler today.

GLASSCOCK, a roustabout for the company, was working on a rig where a well was being pulled when the accident occurred, according to WARREN A. HIRSCH, Delta safety engineer. The accident occurred on the J. M. CLARK lease in the Coke field.

Details of the accident have not been released by the company, but it is reported that the derrick collapsed as the crew began work. GLASSCOCK was reported to have been struck on the head by a piece of heavy equipment and also injured internally.

He was rushed to the Tyler hospital where a noted brain surgeon was summoned. GLASSCOCK is reported to have been in the operating room from 9:30 Friday night until 4:30 Saturday morning.

According to friends MR. GLASSCOCK is improving and Wednesday was able to see and recognize members of his family and friends. Physicians were reported as stating that his condition was very satisfactory under the circumstances.
