Van, TX Two Car Collision Kills Five, Dec 1958

TELEPHONE MAN, FOUR OTHERS DIE IN CRASH.

Van, Tex. (UPI) - Five persons died Sunday in a two-car collision on a farm road intersection one and a half miles south of here. Two other persons, including a nine-month-old baby, were critically injured.
The fatalities included MR. and MRS. JACK LONG, both 50, of Grand Saline; C. F. WALTERS, 63, of Lindale; POSEY RAY PRATER, of Lindale, and MARY PRATER, 27, also of Lindale.
The injured baby was LARRY PRATER. A Tyler Hospital said the baby was improving.
The LONGS were in one automobile and WALTERS and PRATERS in another.
Officers said the cars collided with such impact that passengers were thrown from both vehicles.
LONG was the manager of the Southwestern States Telephone Co. at Grand Saline and his wife operated a beauty shop there.
Also critically injured was MRS. F. E. WEAVER, also of Grand Saline. She was a passenger in the LONG automobile. The LONGS were taking her to Tyler to visit her husband who is critically ill in Mother Francis Hospital.
