TWO KILLED; FOUR INJURED WHEN BUS AND AUTO COLLIDE.
FATAL ACCIDENT OCCURRED EARLY TUESDAY ON HIGHWAY 75.
LYLEE SALLEE, 23, of Teague, and MISS JEWELL MATTHEWS, 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Matthews of Zion's Rest, are dead as a result of a collision between a car in which the couple were riding and a Bowen bus on Highway 75, eight miles south of Corsicana Tuesday morning about 5 o'clock. Four others were injured in the crash.
The coupe in which SALLEE and MISS MATTHEWS were riding was being driven south and the bus was proceeding north at the time of the accident, it was reported.
Occupants of the bus injured were:
MRS. K. W. FRITZ, 2129 Pierce Avenue, Chicago, lacerated lip.
MISS EVELYN MEDLIN, 1204 Walnut, Duncan, Okla., foreign bodies in eye and other minor injuries.
R. L. TURNER, Houston, sprained ankle.
GEORGE PETERS, negro, 2619 Milo, Houston, glass in eye.
The injuries received first aid treatment at the Corsicana Hospital and Clinic and were discharged.
SALLEE was identified by H. W. Batsell of Teague, an uncle of the boy. SALLEE died within a short time after being brought to the hospital. MISS MATTHEWS was killed instantly. Identification, however, was not established until about 11 o'clock Tuesday morning.
Funeral services for MISS MATTHEWS will be held from the residence of her parents Thursday morning at 10 o'clock with burial in the Eureka Cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. W. Z. Corbin, Baptist minister.
Surviving are her parents, two brothers, W. T. Matthews, Jr., and Lee Matthews, both of Corsicana; and a sister, Mrs. J. T. Reid, Overton.
The body of SALLEE was forwarded to Eddyville, Iowa, Wednesday, where interment is scheduled sometime Friday.
SALLEE had brought MISS MATTHEWS to visit her parents early Christmas morning. They were en route to Teague, where both are employed, at the time of the accident.
The funeral arrangements were handled by the Sutherland-McCammon Funeral Home.
