Amelia, TX Gasoline Explosion, Nov 1935

FOUR DEAD AT BEAUMONT.

FATHER AND THREE CHILDREN AT AMELIA, NEAR BEAUMONT, ARE TRAGEDY VICTIMS IN HOME; WIFE AND MOTHER LOOKS ON.

Beaumont, Nov. 28 (AP) -- EDDIE VAYEN, about 40, tenant rice farmer, and his three small daughters, ranging from a month to 10 years of age were burned to death in a farm house fire resulting from a gasoline explosion late today. The Thanksgiving day tragedy occurred in Amelia community about three miles west of here.
The children were LILLIAN, 10; MARGRATE, about 3; and ANNA, one month old infant.

The children were asleep on a bed in the room and the father rushed in to save them. MRS. VAYON grabbed at his clothes through a window but he tore loose and disappeared into the interior of the flaming room only to die in his vain attempt to save his children.

When the house had been levelled by the flames only the unrecognizable trunk of the farmer's body was found, together with meager remains of the two older children's bodies. The baby's body was never located.
The mother was prostrated.
