Special to The News.
GEORGETOWN, Texas, Sept. 1. - A disastrous fire at Walburg, ten miles northeast of Georgetown at 5 o'clock Monday afternoon destroyed the Walburg gin plant, together with cotton and several tons of seed stored there, near-by houses and is out of control. Fears are entertained for the safety of the business section and citizens of Walburg appealed to Georgetown fire department for aid.
Chemical apparatus and one pumper was dispatched to the scene, but the water supply is so limited that it is doubtful if much can be done to subdue the flames. Loss on the gin was $25,000.
