Dallasite, Hit By Auto, Dies.

The city's first traffic fatality in nearly two months, the fourteenth one for the year, was recorded Monday with the death of S. J. Mangum, 78, of 1509 Ross, at Parkland Hospital as the result of injuries received in an accident about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mangum, who died early Monday, was crossing Ross avenue near his home when he was struck by a car driven by Mrs. Roy Shehane, 23, Grand Prairie. He received head injuries, internal injuries and lacerations.

Mrs. Shehane will appear before the Dallas County grand jury to tell her version of the accident Wednesday morning.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Ruby Cothren, Belton, Mrs. R. E. Rich and Mrs. D. H. Montgomery, both of Dallas; seven sons, R. D. Mangum, Lake Charles, La.; the Rev. I. D. Mangum, W. H. Mangum, A. J. Mangum, and Herbert Mangum, all of Dallas, Elbert Mangum, Houston; Paul Mangum, United States Army, North Africa; a sister, a brother, fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
