Polo, SD Gravel Pit Accident, June 1971

Polo -- A 19-year-old Ipswich resident was killed in an accident at a gravel pit northwest of Polo Wednesday morning.
Killed was RON DOSCH, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Dosch of Ipswich. Hand County Sheriff Don Bahr, who investigated the accident, said DOSCH was cleaning an auger and standing on a conveyor when he was caught in the conveyor. The sheriff said DOSCH died before he could be freed from the conveyor.
The accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday about 9 1/4 miles northwest of Polo. The sheriff said DOSCH was employed by Weelborg Brothers Construction Co. of Dell Rapids, which is doing road work in the Polo area. Gravel from the pit where the accident happened was being loaded for use in the road construction work.
Funeral mass for DOSCH will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Church in Ipswich by the Rev. Donald Grace.
DOSCH was born Aug. 28, 1951. He was a 1970 graduate of Ipswich High School, and attended Northern State College last year.
