RON HOFER DIES OF INJURIES SUFFERED IN RACING MISHAP.

Stock car racer RONALD M. HOFER, 22, of 179 Fourth Street N.E., died this afternoon of injuries suffered in an accident during the Sunday afternoon racing competition at Valley Speedway here.
He suffered serious head and chest injuries and a dislocated hip in the crash. He was thrown from his modified stock car during a heat race. The car apparently hit a rough spot in the track and flipped over, witnesses said. The car was demolished.
HOFER was in surgery for 1 1/2 hours Sunday afternoon and his condition then was "very critical," reported the attending physician.
The race driver is survived by his wife, Karen, his parents and one sister. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Welter Funeral Home.
He was a 1961 graduate of Huron High School and was employed by the Huron Body Shop.
