Fire in Charleston


A fire occurred in Charleston last night, in which the Pavilion Hotel and Giffert's carriage manufactory were considerably damaged.

Fire in Charleston.

CHARLESTON, Oct. 31.---The Pavilion Hotel was destroyed by fire last night. The fire communicated to Gilbert's carriage factory, adjoining, which was considerably damaged.


COLUMBIA, Nov.1.---The fire at Charleston destroyed Chapin's carriage repository. Insured for $15,000---$5000 in the Royal Company, $5000 in Girard Company, and the rest divided among several other companies. Several other of Chapin's buildings were also burnt, one of which was insured for $5000 in the Home and in the New Haven Insurance companies. Gibert's coach factory was also burnt. It was insured at New York for $5000. The Pavilion Hotel was but slightly damaged in the rear.
