Reading, PA Boiler Explosion, Nov 1888

KILLED BY A BOILER EXPLOSION.

Reading, Pa., Nov. 2. - A terrible accident resulting in the killing of five men and the injury of many others took place this forenoon on the farm of JONAS SPAYD, in Berne Township, this county, where a steam thresher was in operation.
The boiler exploded with fearful force, carrying destruction on every hand.
The killed are WILLIAM REEVER; a boy aged 16; JOSEPH MACHMER, aged 14, the only support of his widowed sister; ISAAC MARBERGER, aged 16; JOSEPH SPAYD, aged about 32; and IRWIN DUNTELBERGER, aged 19.
