TREE FALLS ON CAR, KILLS SCOUT.

Upper Saucon Township, Pa. (AP) - A 16-year-old boy on his way home from a weekly Boy Scout meeting was killed by a tree that fell on his car.
JEREMY WHETSTONE, a junior at Southern Lehigh High School, was pronounced dead at the scene Monday night. Police said the tree inflicted major head injuries and caused WHETSTONE'S car to collide head-on into another tree about 75 feet away.
The 14-inch-diameter tree struck WHETSTONE'S car about 22 feet from its base. Police suspect the 35 to 50 foot tall tree fell because it was dead.
An investigation was expected to be completed by Thursday. No one else was involved in the freak accident, which was phoned in by nearby residents.
WHETSTONE, of Lower Milford Township, had been elected by his peers into the Order of the Arrow - a group for those who demonstrated superior camping abilities. He was working toward his Eagle Scout rank, said George J. Bancroft St., assistant scoutmaster for Troop 191.
