Gasoline Tank Blows Up and Fire Threatens Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa., July 24.---Five persons were injured, two of them seriously, this evening in an explosion of a gasoline tank at the garage of the Berwin Automobile Company, in this city. A fire, which for a time threatened the garage and several factories and handsome residences in the vicinity, followed the explosion, and before it was extinguished damage estimated at $7000 was done.

Those injured were William Hertzog, member of the Allentown Shoe Manufacturing Company, his wife and their son, and Walter F. Wint and William Simmons, employes[sic] of the garage.

Several passersby were slightly injured by the falling of the plate glass front of the office connected with the garage, which was blown to atoms.
