Detroit, OR Truck Accident Kills 2, Nov 1949

2 KILLED, 5 HURT IN TRUCK WRECK ON NORTH SANTIAM HIGHWAY.

Detroit, Ore., Nov. 28 (UP) - Two men were killed and five were injured when a truck crashed off the North Santiam Highway a mile above the Detroit dam site early today.
ARDELL WEBSTER and CLAUDE JACK NASH, both of Mill City, Ore., were killed in the crash, which occurred at 6:45 a.m., state police reported.
Injured were JAMES MOORE of Lyons, Ore.; ALTON E. HAUNS of Lyons; CECIL R. HAUNS of Gates, Ore.; and CLARENCE ESTENSON and LEO KIRSCH. State police, who investigated the mishap, said they did not learn the addresses of ESTENSON and KIRSCH. The men were believed to be either workers at or near the dam site, or loggers who have been clearing land in the area to be flooded when the Detroit dam is completed.
State police said they had no further details of the accident.
