$50,000 Fire an Fort Sill

Seven Buildings at Field Artillery School Burn.

Special to The News.
Lawton, Ok., June 17.-Fire of undetermined origin destroyed seven double quarter buildings at the Field Artillery School, Fort Sill, Ok., late Wednesday afternoon, causing a loss estimated from $500,000 to $1,000,000. The buildings were two-story frame structures and housed in the neighborhood of twenty officers and their families.

The school closed last week and the near 200 officers attending had departed for their future assignments, taking with them much of their furniture, otherwise the loss would have been much greater. All the fire departments from Fort Sill, Post Field and Lawton answered the call and worked two hours to control the fire.

The blaze started in the servant quarters of C-1 late in the afternoon. Mrs. Edward Ott, wife of a Captain, is said to have discovered the blaze and after warning the family of Lieut. Heininger, the only other occupants of the building, escaped with her two children.
