Altus, OK Oil Rig Accident, Mar 1980

MAN DIES IN RIG ACCIDENT.

Altus, Okla. (AP) -- An 18-year-old Wichita Falls youth was killed early Sunday in an oil rig accident
near here.
Authorities said GEORGE SLATHER was killed when some chain used to lift drills out of the rig caught on the rotating drill shaft and crushed him.
SLATHER was dead on arrival at an Altus hospital.
The accident occurred about 3 a.m. Sunday at a well site located about nine miles south of Altus.
The rig is owned by Don Spruell, Iowa Park.
