Ashtabula, OH (Lake Erie) Schooner C. G. BREED Wreck, Nov 1879

SCHOONER WRECKED OF ASHTABULA.

On the night of the 14th inst. the schooner C. G. Breed, laden with 24,000 bushels of wheat, bound from Detroit to Buffalo, was struck by a squall and capsized off Point au Pelee, Lake Erie, only two out of the crew of eight were saved, one being found clinging to the mast and the other afloat on some debris. Both were nearly exhausted from exposure.

Buffalo, Nov. 16 -- The Schooner Nellie Gardner arrived today, having picked up two survivors of the ill-fated schooner C. G. Breed.
They were named DAVID McALLISTER of Port Colburne and had been in water twenty-four hours and were nearly exhausted when rescued.
