PLANT BLAST INJURES 26.
East Liverpool, Ohio (AP) -- An explosion at an Ohio Edison Co. plant south of here injured 26 men Wednesday, none seriously.
A company spokesman said the explosion occurred in a dust collection chamber of a new unit being added to the plant's No. 2 stack at Stratton, 15 miles south of East Liverpool along the Ohio River.
Cause of the blast was not determined, but police said it may have been touched off by leaking gas when a worker cut through an air duct. There was no fire and no immediate damage estimate.
Ambulances rushed the injured to East Liverpool City Hospital and Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville.
Four were admitted here and two at Steubenville. Twenty others were released after treatment.
The four men admitted to East Liverpool were reported in fair condition. One later was transferred to Sewickley Valley Hospital at Sewickley, Pa., near Pittsburgh.
The two men at Steubenville were also reported in fair condition.
