Hume, OH House Fire, May 1893

A House Destroyed and a Large Amount of Stuff Consumed.

HUME, O., May 24.---(Special.)---Pank Weisenmeir's house was burned last Saturday afternoon while they were all away from home, over on his other farm planting corn. Everything was destroyed. About 200 cans of fruit, 1000 pounds of meat and lard, two barrels of flour, household and kitchen furniture. Mrs. Weisenmeir has been preparing to go west to visit a sister in Iowa and one in Chicago, and all of her clothing, except what she had on, was consumed. Mr. Weisenmeir, had laid away his watch at noon for fear of losing it out of his old pantaloons.

The fire was first seen by some of his neighbors, and they burst in a window and saved a few drawers out of a bureau and as luck would have it, they were his notes, deeds and mortgages. The building was about twenty minutes burning. Partly secured by insurance.
