MINE EXPLOSION FATAL TO FIVE.

River Hebert, N.S., May 11. -- (AP) -- An explosion, believed due to accumulated gas occurred this morning in number 2 Victoria mine, killing five men and injuring at least eight others.
A full day shift of 990 men had entered the mine at 1 a.m. The explosion came an hour and a half later. Most of the workers were out of the mine shortly afterward, and all have been accounted for.
The dead:
SAM RECTORD, 48, married, four children.
CHARLES STEVENS, 35, married, three children.
SANFORD LEGERE, 21, unmarried.
THOMAS JONES, of Joggin, 60, married.
GARFIELD STEVENS, unmarried.

Spelling Error

Sam Rector, no "d" on the end of Rector, D. was the middle initial of his name, Samuel D. Rector is how it should read. He was my grandfather's brother.
