Apex, NC Auto And Train Crash, Jan 1943

SEVEN DIE IN TRAIN AUTOMOBILE CRASH.

SEABOARD TRAIN CRASHES INTO CAR AT APEX, N.C.

MARVIN TUNSTALL, 48; his wife, CUBA, 35; and their five children were killed late Sunday night when their automobile and a southbound Seaboard train collided two miles south of Apex.
The parents apparently occupied the front seat and the children, ELLEN, 15; ROY, 8; RAY, 6; BILLY, 5; and an infant, were on the back seat.
The TUNSTALLS, who lived about a mile from the crossing, were on their way home from Apex at the time of the crash. The bodies of the parents were thrown a hundred yards and those of the children, jammed in, were carried with the rear of the car for about a mile.
Part of the car wreckage was so entwined with the front of the diesel engine that it was removed with considerable difficulty.
