Warrenton, NC Head On Crash Kills Six, Apr 1956

SIX KILLED IN HEAD-ON CRASH OF TWO AUTOS.

Warrenton, N.C., April 1 (AP) - Six persons were killed in a head-on collision of two cars near here on Highway 59 today.
State Highway Patrolman V. R. Vaughan said that five of the dead were all members of the same family.
He identified the victims as:
JAMES H. SALMON, 29;
his wife, MYRTLE, 22;
their two children, JAMES H. SALMON, JR., 2;
and MARY SALMON, 4;
and Salmon's mother, MRS. MARY SALMON, 57, all of Warrenton.
Vaughan said the other victim was ARTHUR WEBB MERRITT, 31, of Rt. 2, Franklinton.
Vaughan said the car driven by Merritt was attempting to pass another car on the crest of a hill. He said Merritt attempted to cut back, sideswiped the car he was trying to pass and crashed head-on into the sedan driven by Salmon.
