Goldsboro, NC Exchange Hotel Fire, Aug 1871

DISASTROUS FIRE.

GOLDSBORO, N. C. Aug. 14.—About half past twelve o’clock last night a fire broke out at the Exchange Hotel in this place, destroying the two hotels, ten stores and the out-buildings, and the railroad car sheds. Loss about $80,000, on which there is probably $30,000 insurance.

The fire was the work of an incendiary, and is generally supposed to have its origin out of the late negro riot.
