Camp Mackall, NC Transport Plane Crash, Oct. 1943


Camp Mackall, N.C., Nov. 1. -- (AP) -- Authorities at this Army airborne troop post in North Carolina's sandhills announced Saturday night that 14 officers and men were killed and four seriously injured Friday in the crash of a transport plane.
The announcement by the public relations office and the commander Col. Vernon Olsmith, said the next of kin had been notified. It gave no details of the accident but said it occurred during a routine training flight.
One of the dead was from North Carolina. Capt.
