TWO-CAR ACCIDENT KILLS SIX.

Shandaken, N.Y. - A car drifted over the center line and smashed head-on into an oncoming car, killing six people from two families and seriously injuring three others, police said.
The wreck occurred Saturday afternoon when a car driven by THOMAS H. CHIDLOW crossed the center line, Trooper Joseph McCarthy said. His car slammed into a car driven by TIMOTHY SHORT.
CHIDLOW, 54, from Long Island, was killed, along with everyone else in his car; his wife ESTHER, 52; son THOMAS, 17, and daughter DEBRA A. DiBARTOLO, 28.
SHORT, 37, of Pine Hills, also was killed, along with his 5-year-old daughter, APRIL.
His wife CANDY, 22, was in serious condition Sunday, as was their 2-year-old son, JAMES. His daughter HEATHER, 6, was in critical condition. Both drivers and all passengers were wearing seat belts, state police said.
Police were investigating the cause of the wreck, which occurred about 50 miles southwest of Albany on a two-lane state route.
