Knapps Station, NY Train Crash Into Auto, Jan 1958
TRAIN-CAR CRASH KILLS PARENTS AND 4 CHILDREN.
Potsdam, N.Y., Jan. 12 (AP) - A mother, father and four children were killed last night when their automobile was hit by a Rutland Railroad freight train at a grade crossing near this northern New York village. A fifth child was injured critically.
The dead were HOWARD MICHAUD, 32, a farmhand of Massena Center; his wife, ELIZABETH, 25; three daughters, NANCY, 6, LINDA, 5, and CAROLYN, 2; and a son, HOWARD, 11 months.
WAYNE MICHAUD, 3, was reported in critical condition at a hospital here.
The car was carried approximately 1,000 feet from the unguarded crossing at Knapps Station on a country road about six miles north of Potsdam. The mother was thrown clear. The others were trapped in the wreckage.
