Brooklyn, NY Storm Blows Down Wall, Jan 1890

DEATH UNDER A WALL.

FIVE PEOPLE INSTANTLY KILLED DURING A WIND STORM.

Brooklyn, N. Y., Jan. 9. -- A heavy wind last night shook the Presbyterian Church on Throop Avenue, and at 4:20 o'clock this morning one of the walls fell with a crash on the three story frame house adjacent, utterly demolishing it.
The house was occupied by two families named MOTT and PURDY. Nine people were buried in the ruins and five were killed.
Following is a list of the dead:
DAVID PURDY, 14.
CAROLINE PURDY, 16.
MAY PURDY, 18.
MRS. CAROLINE MOTT, 53.
SARAH MOTT, 18.

Later -- It is now believed that only DAVID and MARY PURDY were killed, and the others mentioned in the earlier report were seriously and probably fatally injured.
