FIRE RECORD.

$5,000 Blaze at Clovis.

Clovis, N. M., Aug. 20.---Jacks & Blounts' grocery store, Johnson & Jones' bicycle store and Payne's second-hand furniture store on West Grand Avenue were destroyed by fire which broke out about 2 o'clock this morning in the Jacks & Blounts building. All three of these buildings and contents were destroyed, except some of the second-hand furniture. Total loss about $5,000; insurance about $4,000. Had it not been for the heroic efforts of the volunteer firemen and the new fire engine and equipment the whole block would have been destroyed.

It is not known how the fire started.
