Medford, NH Runaway Accident, Aug 1838

SAD ACCIDENT One day last week, while a little girl by the name of Brackett, was standing on the sidewalk of one of the streets in Medford, counting the gains from the sale of a basket of blueberries, a horse attached to a cart, who had broken his bitt[sic], and was running at full speed through the streets, ran against her with such violence as to dash her on the ground, and fractured her skull, killing her instantly. The owner of the cart, Mr. Vining, was also thrown out and severely injured.--- Journal
