FOUR MEN DIE WHEN PRIVATE PLANE CRASHES.
Mason, N. H., July 28 -- (AP) -- The crash of a private plane today killed four men including DELMAR M. JEWETT, SR., 80, and his son, president and vice-president, respectively, of D. M. JEWETT, Inc., South Deerfield, Mass., pickle manufacturers.
Killed with the JEWETTS when the plane plunged in fog and rain upon a wooded hill were EDWARD J. REDMOND, 52, South Deerfield postmaster and former Deerfield police chief, and HOLLIS D. BILLINGS, 45, a South Deerfield druggist.
The party had flown in the plane -- piloted by DELMAR M. JEWETT, JR., 40 -- to see a baseball game in Boston last night. Apparently lost in clouds and rain it crashed far north of its course on the return flight this morning.
Investigators who sped to the crash scene had, at first only one clue to the identity of the victims: The slogan "The Happy Pickle" printed on the side of the company's plane.
