Shickley, NE Fighter Plane Crash, Aug 1944

PILOT KILLED IN THUNDERBOLT CRASH.

Shickley, Neb. (AP) -- Second Lt. JOHN A. WAGNER, JR., Bruning army air field fighter pilot from Akron, O., was killed Wednesday when his P-47 Thunderbolt plane crashed in a corn field three miles east of here, Col. C. D. McAllister, base commander, announced Wednesday night.
Lieutenant WAGNER is the second fighter pilot to be killed near here in a P-47 crash in the last two days. Tuesday Second Lt. ROBERT G. DICKEY, Connellsville, Pa., crashed two miles east of here. Cause of the crash was not determined.
