SIX FROM ONE CAR VICTIMS OF MISHAP NEAR READING, MINN.
Reading, Minn. (UPI) - Nine persons were killed and one was injured critically early today in a head-on collision on a straight stretch of highway near this southwestern Minnesota village.
Nobles County sheriff's officers identified victims in one of the cars as MR. and MRS. JOHN VOSS; MRS. MATT GERBER; MRS. JOHN SHROER and MRS. TED VOSS, all of whom died in the crash, and MRS. LARRY BUNKERS, who died at a Worthington, Minn., hospital. All six persons in the car were from Wilmont, Minn.
The only survivor, MRS. ERNIE LUECK, 36, of Wilmont, Minn., was in critical condition at Worthington with head and chest injuries.
One of the vehicles carrying three persons was registered to LAUREN D. MURRAY, of Sibley, Iowa, who was believed to have been driving. Other passengers in the Iowa car were identified tentatively as MR. and MRS. JOE BUCHMAN, also of Sibley.
The other car carried seven persons, all believed to have been on their way home to Wilmont from night work at the Campbell Soup Company plant at Worthington, 14 miles southeast in Nobles County.
Police said the impact of the crash left the two demolished cars 100 yards apart on opposite sides of the road.
The accident occurred about 15 miles south of Slayton, Minn., where 13 persons died April 21, 1940, in one of the nation's worst auto accidents.
