Benton Harbor, MI Truck And Bus Accident, Sep 1929

FIVE KILLED WHEN BUS WAS SIDE SWIPED.

Benton Harbor, Mich. -- (AP) -- Five persons were killed and 15 injured in the side swiping of a Goodrich Transit truck by an Indian Trails passenger bus on Highway U.S. 12, four miles west of here Sunday. Three of the injured still remained in Mercy Hospital here Monday.
The dead are:
MRS. JOSE QUIMONES, North Branch, Mich.
Infant child of MRS. QUIMONES.
SONNY STUART, 25, negro, Saginaw, Mich.
RICARDO DORADO, Saginaw, Mich.
Unidentified Mexican.
A large portion of the left side of the passenger bus was torn away and virtually every person sitting on the left tier of seats was killed or seriously injured.
WILLIAM SHANE, 30, of Owosso, Mich., driver of the bus was arrested by Berrien County officers on a charge of negligent homicide, but later was released on bonds pending a coroner's hearing.
JOSEPH BELLINGER, driver of the truck was not injured.
