Gloucester, MA Fell Overboard and Drowned, Jan 1899

FLAG AT HALF-MAST.

Gloucester, Mass., Jan. 27.--Schooner Eliza H. Parkhurst, Captain Daniel McDonald, arrived this forenoon with her flag at half-mast for the loss of one of her crew, Simon Sampson, who fell overboard on the night of Jan. 6. None of the crew saw Sampson when he fell, and when attracted by his cries, all efforts to save him were fruitless. At the time of the accident the vessel was about 16 miles off Sable island. Sampson was unmarried, 28 years old, and his home was at Arichat, C. B.
