Salem, MA Coast Guard Plane Crash, May 1957
2 AIRMEN KILLED, 2 HURT IN SHOW.
Salem, Mass., (UP) -- Two airmen were described as still critical today as a result of injuries suffered in the crash of a patrol plane during Armed Forces Day exercises Saturday. Two others were killed.
Lt. ROBERT A. CARLSTON, 27, of Marblehead, co-pilot and AL2 HENRY F. HAGEMEISTER, 22, of Salem Coast Guard Air Station, suffered multiple fractures when their Coast Guard Albatross crashed into Salem harbor during an attempted jet-assisted takeoff.
Lt. Cmdr. ALBERT P. HARTT, JR., 38, of Beverly and AD2 WILLIAM J. TARKER, JR., 33, of Salem were killed in the crash.
