FIVE KILLED WHEN SPEEDING CAR RUNS INTO PARKED TRACTOR.
Princess Anne, Md. (UP) - Five persons were killed Saturday when a speeding automobile rammed into the back of a parked tractor-trailer two miles north of here.
The dead were identified as:
HENRY MIZELL, 24, driver of the car;
PAULE DAVENPORT, 41;
HAROLD DAVENPORT, 21;
and 9-year-old KAREN MOSLEY, all of New York City;
and JOHN DAVENPORT, 69, Columbia, S.C.
One other passenger in the automobile, ERMA MOSLEY, 30, also of New York City, suffered a broken leg and lacerations.
Police said the tractor-trailer driven by William Cherry, 45, Suffolk, Va., was traveling south on Route 13 near this Eastern Shore community when Cherry was stopped by motor trouble and could not pull off the road because of soft shoulders. Police said three reflector lights were out but the rear lights of the vehicle were on and Cherry's helper was alerting traffic with a flashlight.
The automobile rammed into the rear of the tractor-trailer at high speed, according to police, and wedged under the big vehicle up past the hood. The car was demolished.
Four of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene and KAREN MOSLEY died at Peninsula General Hospital at Princess Anne.
