TOP OF HEAD BLOWN OFF IN DELAYED EXPLOSION OF 15-INCH CRACKER PLACED IN PIPE.

Annapolis, Maryland -- (AP) -- JOHN E. BELL of Baltimore was killed by the delayed action of a 15-inch firecracker he had put into an iron pipe at Mago Vista near Annapolis. Medical Examiner J. M. Claffy said BELL looked into the pipe when the firecracker failed to explode. It went off at that moment and tore off the top of his head. He died in the Annapolis Hospital emergency room half an hour later.
