Rockland, ME Schooner A H WHITMORE Wreck, May 1903

ASHORE IN COLLISION

Schooner A. H. Whitmore Has Full Share of Hard Luck.

Rockland, Me., May 1--The schooner A. H. Whitmore, from Stonington to Portland with granite, ran aground, today, in the Fox Island thoroughfare and a half hour later was badly damaged in collision with the schooner Abbie Schlafer, Capt. Peterson, bound from Stonington to New York with stone. The Schlafer passed within two feet of the stranded schooner and carried away the stern gear, main boom and mainsail of the Whitmore, proceeding with the gear on her bow without investigating the extent of the damage. The Whitmore was towed here. Capt. B. F. Pascal of Stonington, owner of the Whitmore, had demanded damaged form Farrand & Spear of Rockland, owners of the Schlaefer.
