2 Pedestrians Critically Hurt On Route One
Local Man, Woman Hit At Scarborough
A South Portland woman lost her lower right leg and her male companion received injuries to both legs when they were struck by an auto while walking across Route 1 at Scarborough near the Pine Point Road intersection late Saturday night.
At the Maine General Hospital, attaches said Mrs. Dorene E. Forty of 38 Power Road South Portland, and Gerard Willey whose address was given as 30 Noves Street, were in critical condition early today.
Her injuries included a severed lower right leg and head injuries. Willard suffered shock and injuries to both legs including possible fractures, according to the hospital.
At press time no official report of the accident was available, but police officials said the victims were crossing the road near Valle's Inn in Dunstan when they were struck. Time of the accident was placed at shortly before midnight.
While official details were lacking a Scarborough police officer stationed at the Inn said it definitely was not a case of hit and run driving.
