Port Hudson, LA Pickup Truck and Auto Crash, Oct 1977
FIVE DIE, TWO HURT IN WRECK.
Baton Rouge, La. (AP) - Five persons were killed and two others seriously injured when a pick-up truck swerved into opposing traffic on U.S. 61 near Port Hudson, this morning and smashed into a crowded passenger car, the state police reports.
The driver of the truck and four of the six persons in the car were killed.
Listed as killed in the car were:
the driver, JOHNNY BELL, 39.
PATSY J. WILLIS, 53.
JONNELL WILLIAMS, 6.
and KENNETH WILLIAMS, 9.
Car passengers listed as seriously injured are:
JOHN WILLIS 51.
and ANGELA WILLIAMS, 5.
All of the persons in the car were from New Orleans, all were related and all listed the same home address, the state police said.
The truck driver was identified as CHARLES EUGENE JONES, 30, of Red House, W. Va.
A State Police spokesman said alcohol may have contributed to the wreck, but he would not say which driver was suspected of drinking. He said that blood samples have been sent to the state crime lab.
